Co-extrusion systems of varying degrees are available and sized to match the many line sizes available with respect to desired layer percentages, film thicknesses and operating line speeds. Co-extruded films from 3 to more than 20 layers ("micro layers"), are available, 5 layers with 4 extruders and 7 layers with 5 extruders are most common. Film forming is typically by vacuum box on a large diameter chill roll to control film pre-stretch properties. Winding systems feature fully automatic roll and core handling systems.
Line sizes are available for net finished widths as listed below with the 120” / 3 M, 6 up line being the most popular and flexible.
- 80” / 2 M - 4 rolls up
- 100” / 2.5 M - 5 rolls up
- 120” / 3 M - 6 rolls up
- 160” / 4 M - 8 rolls up
- 180” / 4.5 M - 9 rolls up
- 200” / 5 M - 10 rolls up
Typically all lines are geared in to run up to 2000 FPM / 610 MPM, actual line speeds typically range from 1400 FPM / 424 MPM to 1800 / 550 MPM and may be limited by resin formulation, resin quality, line size or winding system selected. Leading producers are currently developing formulations to run in excess of 2000 FPM / 610 MPM
Typical products; range from 35 to 300 gauge, Machine and Hand Wrap films.
This 189 inch (4.8 meter) casting unit runs stretch films at speeds in excess of 1804 ft./min. (550 m/min.) with excellent reliability.
Cast film line with close coupled and streamlined feed pipes to a 7 Layer coextrusion system on a 150 inch (3.8 meter) wide die.
