Yes, we've regularly installed equipment on all the major continents, including Africa.
Who owns Davis-Standard, LLC?
Davis-Standard, LLC is owned by management and an investor group led by Hamilton Robinson LLC, a Stamford, CT based private equity firm.
What product lines do you have?
We design and manufacture equipment for cast film, extrusion coating, pelletizing, solution & solvent coating, blown film, and industrial blow molding.
Do you sell stand alone components or complete systems only?
We sell components and entire systems. We can retrofit any Black Clawson Converting Machinery, Egan, or ER-WE-PA Components (i.e. a winder or a coater) onto an existing line — whether it's our converting machinery line or another OEM'S.

How is an MDO (Machine Direction Orienter) used in the production of breathable films?
Breathability in films utilizing the MDO process is accomplished by uniaxial stretching of a polyolefin film that has been highly loaded with an inert filler such as calcium carbonate (CaCO2). The film surrounding the filler breaks free from the filler creating elongated micropores. This process creates a network of interconnecting pores allowing the transmission of moisture vapor through the film without sacrificing the barrier properties of the film. The type of film is commonly used in the production of diaper backsheets, adult incontinence products, feminine pads, surgical gowns and bandages.
Is breathable film the only product I can produce with my MDO?
MDO's are used for the production of various types of films. Although the MDO is commonly known as the first process in the biaxially orientation process, MDO's are being incorporated into blown and cast film lines to produce films with unique physical properties such as better barrier characteristics, improved machine direction tensile strength or stiffness. Machine direction orientation can also assist in down gauging of the film while enhancing the films mechanical properties. Orientation of film followed by annealing (heat setting) can provide dimensional stability in the film for future processing, such as label films used in an injection molding process or films used in thermal or extrusion laminating processes.

How much should I set aside for spare parts when purchasing a new line?
Typically, 10% of the machine purchase price.
Back to TopPelletizing
What kind of products can generally be pelletized on Black Clawson Converting Machinery equipment?
The Black Clawson Converting Machinery Pelletor™ can pelletize virtually all types of polymers and resins from very low to very high viscosity. Also many specialty process areas like food, gunpowder and other products that can be pumped to the pelletizer as a viscous liquid, extruded through a die orifice and solidified using a water or air quenching medium.
What pelletizing method (underwater, water ring, or stranding) is best for my product?
The Black Clawson Converting Machinery Pelletor™ Underwater pelletizer is best for all types of products due to its precision knife to die plate alignment tolerance capabilities and the unique die plate heating method that allows the orifice holes to stay open and flowing without freeze off. Hot or cold (wet or dry) start-up is possible without pelletizer disassembly. This is particularly important to save start-up material losses, time and "on demand" batch process restarts without operator difficulty. Due to the fast pellet quenching and cut off, the underwater Pelletor™ can pelletize from very low to very high viscosity while producing uniform pellets. The water ring machine type also available is generally limited to medium to higher viscosity materials that quench quickly due to the cutting of molten product that then must be centrifugally flung into a water ring curtain that surrounds the die plate. The stranding method is currently the least desirable due to pellet shape, uniformity, noise, high maintenance and strand breakage due to low viscosity or inclusion problems.
What types of processes systems and machinery configurations can a Black Clawson Converting Machinery Pelletor™ be utilized in?
Virtually all. The Black Clawson Converting Machinery Pelletor™ does not rely on the feed source to mount the die plate. This means that die plate to shaft alignment is fully maintained within the pelletizer machine. Black Clawson Converting Machinery Pelletizers are installed with Black Clawson Converting Machinery extruders up to 26" (660 mm) diameter or with gear pumps, internal batch mixers, twin screw mixers and extruders. They can be installed in batch or continuous processes with tubular or autoclave reactors, solution, slurry and numerous other types of virgin resin production, compounding, or scrap reclaim operations. The Black Clawson Converting Machinery Pelletor™ is the most versatile high quality trouble free pelletizer on the market.
